Decompression Therapy (DRX9000)
Do you suffer with low back pain, Sciatica, bulging or herniated discs, or Scoliosis? If so, you may want to look into the benefits of Spinal Decompression. Our office uses the DRX9000 True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System. This system is specifically designed to provide pain relief for decompressive and degenerative injuries of the spine; through the application of forces along a treatment curve to elongate the spine without causing the muscles that guard the spine to contract.
Anybody who has back pain associated with a damaged disc may be helped by Spinal Decompression therapy. The following conditions are recommended for use of this therapy: herniated, protruding, ruptured, or bulging discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica, or radiculopathy (pinched nerves) and other neurological conditions.
Each treatment session lasts for approximately 30 minutes, with patient relaxing comfortably on a heavily padded bed. After being secured into position by an upper body and lower body harness, you can completely relax by watching a DVD, listening to music, or simply taking a nap. Each session is divided into 18-phases, which alternate between a maximum and minimum therapeutic level. Some patients may experience light side effects with this type of therapy. Mild muscular soreness during or after treatment may occur. The sensation would be similar to what a person may experience at the start of a new exercise regimen. Most patients find this therapy quite comfortable and relaxing. During an average 30-45 minute treatment, most patient patients experience a gentle stretch in the lumbar spine and tend to fall asleep.
Pulse PEMF Therapy
Pulse PEMF systems utilize sophisticated generators and a variety of application accessories to introduce electromagnetic fields (note: this is not an electric current), through the clothing and skin, and into the body. The pulsing field introduces an electromagnetic charge to the cells, stimulating and exercising them. The cells use the supple-mental energy from PEMF to better perform their many jobs—relaxing the body to assist with muscle fatigue, providing full-body energy, and enhancing the natural recovery process. PEMF capitalizes on the intelligence and holistic nature of the body. Rather than treating or addressing injuries or illnesses, PEMF provides a raw material (electromagnetic energy!) crucial to the body’s ability to heal and regulate itself.
PULSE TECHNOLOGY Pulse PEMF manufactures the world’s leading PEMF technology with systems designed to energize the mind, body, and life. Pulse’s exclusive accessories are made with human anatomy in mind and handcrafted from ultraluxe, soft, durable, leather-free Ultrafabrics®. Elizabethton Chiropractic is now offering PEMF sessions with the Pulse XL Pro, Bed, and Chair. Pulse PEMF differs from other electromagnetic devices in its low-to-high intensity capability, which allows for a new level of session customization. Pulse PEMF, a non-invasive, relaxing, and safe modality, interacts at the cellular level for lasting wellness benefits.
PEMF may not be right for you if you…
● Are the recipient of an organ transplant
● Have an internal electronic device that cannot be removed, such as pacemakers, cochlear implants, defibrillators, spinal stimulators, etc.
● Are actively bleeding
● Are pregnant or believe you may be pregnant
● Have injuries or concerns of injuries that have not yet been evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider
Manual Massage/Trigger Point Therapy
Here in the office, we offer Manual Massage/Trigger Point therapy. This treatment is to help relieve pain and tightness in the body, by breaking up adhesions in the muscle. By doing this, you help your body's Range of Motion (ROM) to increase and the pain levels to decrease.
In our office, you have the choice of doing a regular hand massage, or you can use the Percusser. The Percusser delivers a deep tissue massage and breaks up the adhesions on your muscles a little easier than a "hand" manual.
Electric Stimulation and Ultrasound Therapies
Dr. Howard W. Dennis and his Elizabethton Chiropractic team of Chiropractic Therapy Assistants (CTA’s) use pain reduction electric stimulation therapy with great benefits. Through the use of pain reduction electric stimulation therapy, small pulses of electrical currents are introduced to an area of the body which can stimulate the nerves, contract and relax the muscles and stimulate the healing process. When this process takes place, your body emits natural pain reducing chemicals called “endorphins” that help change the pain receptors and decrease pain. In addition to pain relief, various pain reduction electric stimulation therapy settings we use in our office decrease swelling in the affected area, re-educate muscles, help re-build atrophied muscles, increase joint range of motion, decrease muscle spasms, improve circulation to increase oxygen and healing which all accelerate the healing process in the body.
The great thing about pain reduction electric stimulation therapy is that it can be done on most patients almost anywhere you’re experiencing pain in your body. The pain reduction electric stimulation therapy pads can be placed around the low back, mid back, upper back, neck, sciatic nerve, thighs, calves, knees, hands, arms, tennis elbow area and even on the shoulders. Dr. Howard Dennis and his Elizabethton Chiropractic team of CTA’s (Chiropractic Therapy Assistants) are trained in the proper way to place the pain reduction electric stimulation therapy pads on the patient’s body for the maximum effectiveness. When the therapy is performed in the correct manner benefits of decreased swelling, increased range of motion, increased performance, muscle re-education for injury recovery, increased muscle strength to regain function and increased blood flow to decrease healing time can be attained.
The great thing about the pain reduction electric stimulation therapy system at Elizabethton Chiropractic is that Dr. Howard Dennis and his team of Chiropractic Therapy Assistants use a medical grade system. Their medical grade system has multiple settings for different clinical needs, higher power and convenience which benefits you. While battery powered systems from the drug stores can be good, Elizabethton Chiropractic’s medical grade electrical stimulation therapy system is beneficial, fast acting, efficient and practical. This therapy at Elizabethton Chiropractic is helpful for relieving your pain. It also has settings confirmed safe and effective for circulation, spasms, increased range of motion, atrophy of small and large muscles and for muscle re-education by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Dr. Howard Dennis and his Elizabethton Therapy Assistant team also offer pain reduction ultrasound therapy to promote tissue healing. Pain reduction ultrasound therapy is a treatment used in the office to treat pain, improve limited range of motion problems, and promote healing in the body. The best thing about this therapy is that the treatment is performed while the patient is seated comfortably in a chair or laying down. The area where the ultrasound therapy is to be applied is the only area of the patient’s body that will be exposed during the treatment. A jelly like substance will be applied to the skin to help reduce friction and provide a medium for the soundwaves to be emitted into the affected area as the therapy is performed.
Dr. Howard Dennis and his Elizabethton Chiropractic Therapy Assistant team apply the pain reduction ultrasound therapy moving a handheld wand with a metal head over the affected area of the body with gel used as a medium. With plantar fasciitis sufferers, this gel would be between the metal head and inflamed fascia of the plantar surface of the foot which allows the sound waves to enter the injured tissue. As stated before, the gel creates this medium for the sound waves to be emitted into the inflamed tissue. This promotes the healing process by increasing the circulation of blood flow. This is pain free, efficient and relaxing while being performed.
Depending on your symptoms, diagnosis and treatment program, Dr. Howard Dennis at Elizabethton Chiropractic will determine what’s the right therapy for you. Not everyone are candidates for pain reduction ultrasound therapy and pain reduction electric stimulation therapy. They both vary in the session’s time. Pain reduction electric stimulation therapy sessions usually take around 15 minutes. Pain reduction ultrasound therapy sessions take 8-15 minutes.
Therapy Movements
Focusing on getting these glitches out of the body through specific movements & adjustments is essential for complete recovery. Studies show that doing just movements or just adjustments separately is not as effective as combining the two. Pain reduction is accomplished through firing mechanoreceptors which are receivers or receptors of movement which are larger than the smaller receivers or receptors of pain called nociceptors. Both receivers of movement and pain use the same nerve tract. Thus, when the larger mechanoreceptors are stimulated with specific movements, they override the smaller pain nociceptors which both use the same nerve tract. This process reduces pain. Thankfully Dr. Howard W. Dennis and his licensed Elizabethton Chiropractic Therapy Assistants called CTA’s understand this neurologic process and will guide you to recovery along the way.
When Elizabethton Chiropractic and Dr. Howard Dennis’ team of Chiropractic Therapy Assistants (CTA’s) initiate your specifically tailored therapy exercise program, it’s in your best interest to stay with it and complete it with the intention of getting the glitches in your nerve system worked out therapeutically while re-educating your nervous system, restoring function, improving brain function, increasing blood flow, regaining stability and decreasing pain. We’ll work alongside you. We will make sure you understand your movements and their health benefits. You may be worried that you do not have the time or the ability to stick to your movement program. You don’t have to worry anymore. Your movements that we teach are basic, completed in minutes and easily incorporated into your busy life.
These movements are the building blocks to get your body and your health back on the right track. Dr. Howard W. Dennis and the Elizabethton Chiropractic Therapy Assistants will initially examine you. We will see how fluid your movements are and what kind of activities you participate in. We will check your body’s physical capabilities. We will find where there are break ups in your movement, or where you are disconnected in your movements. Dr. Dennis will draw up a corrective care plan of action, and we’ll carry it out as soon as possible. This individualized plan of therapy will fit you, your lifestyle, will be practical, effective and easy to follow. As you perform the movements, we will instruct you, demonstrate them, coach you, encourage you and adjust your program as you progress.
The best thing about your movements, is the fact that in time you will be able to do these practical movements you learn from Dr. Howard Dennis and the Elizabethton Chiropractic Therapy Assistants in your own home. It doesn’t take expensive equipment. On your first day of treatment, we will gradually start your plan of movements. You’ll have a series of printouts as you progress. There will be no guessing of what’s next. It’s very detailed, step by step, easy to follow and easy to implement.
